    Effect of dietary protein and protein energy ratio on the growth performance of lemon fin barb hybrid (Hypsibarbus wetmorei X Puntius gonionotus) larvae

    A series of two experiments was conducted to study the optimum dietary protein level and protein to energy ratio of lemon fin barb hybrid larvae. In Experiment 1, five isocaloric diets (4700 kcal per kg) ranging from 40 to 60% protein in 5% increments were fed to triplicate groups of lemon fin barb hybrid larvae (initial weight: 0.10 ± 0.01 mg per fish) for 21 days. Weight gain of fish was proportional to the protein content of the diet up to an incorporation rate of 50%. Among formulated diets, the diet with 50% protein produced the highest weight gain (4.26 ± 0.03 mg). The dietary protein level that yielded maximum growth was 52.1% based on a broken-line model estimation of weight gain. Based on these results, two dietary protein levels (50% and 55%) were used along with three energy levels (4500, 4700 and 4900 kcal per kg diet) at each protein level in Experiment 2. The survival of fish fed diets containing 55% protein was significantly lower (p<0.05) than that of fish fed diets containing 50% protein regardless of the energy level. Weight gain of fish was significantly (p<0.05) different at all dietary protein and energy levels. The best growth was observed in larvae fed diet 3 containing 50% protein with 4900 kcal/kg energy with the highest weight gain (3.12 ± 0.00 mg), feed conversion ratio (0.87 ± 0.02) and protein energy ratio (97.35 mg/kcal)

    New design algorithm and reliability testing of solar powered near-space flight vehicle for defense and security

    Broadband telecommunications have become the key factor for economic growths around the world, but rural and hard to reach areas are missing out on the  opportunity. To overcome this problem, we propose a pseudo-satellite system where  telecommunication devices are carried on a perpetually flying solar aircraft cruising at stratospheric altitude. Our aircraft will combine lighter-than-air technology to augment the lift from the wing. Every major components contributing to the aircraft total weight has been considered, resulting in a range of design solutions. We chose wing span and aspect ratio of 50m and 13 respectively, from which other specifications of the aircraft were fixed to. Our design solution has been validated by power and weight balance analysis.     ZnO hollow spheres arrayed molecularly-printed-polymer based selective electrochemical sensor for methyl-parathion pesticide detection

    A highly sensitive electrochemical-based detector was fabricated to selectively sense methyl-parathion (MP). A Glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was functionalized with zinc oxide (ZnO) hollow spheres (ZnOHS) and a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) to form the developed sensor. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was performed to synthesize a molecularly imprinted polymeric film on the ZnOHS modified GCE (GCE/ZnOHS) by electropolymerization of functional monomer, l-arginine (L-Arg), and template molecule, MP. The differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was utilized to evaluate the efficiency of the electrochemical detection of MP under optimal conditions by the proposed sensor. The developed sensor recorded a good performance for detecting MP in the linear range of 5 × 10−9 to 0.1 × 10−4 mol L−1 (R2=0.985) with a detection limit (S/N = 3) of 0.5 × 10−9 mol L−1 and sensitivity of 571 nA/μmolL −1 cm −2. This electrochemical sensing system effectively detects MP in real samples with satisfactory recoveries of 90.4%, 91.9%, 118%, and 96.3% for fresh green beans, strawberry, tomato, and cabbage, respectively. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.1

    Holographic dual of the Standard Model on the throat

    We apply recent techniques to construct geometries, based on local Calabi-Yau manifolds, leading to warped throats with 3-form fluxes in string theory, with interesting structure at their bottom. We provide their holographic dual description in terms of RG flows for gauge theories with almost conformal duality cascades and infrared confinement. We describe a model of a throat with D-branes at its bottom, realizing a 3-family Standard Model like chiral sector. We provide the explicit holographic dual gauge theory RG flow, and describe the appearance of the SM degrees of freedom after confinement.     Discovery of ruthenium(II) metallocompound and olaparib synergy for cancer combination therapy

    Synergistic drug combinations can extend the use of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) such as Olaparib to BRCA-proficient tumors and overcome acquired or de novo drug resistance. To identify new synergistic combinations for PARPi, we screened a "micro-library" comprising a mix of commercially available drugs and DNA-binding ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes (RPCs) for Olaparib synergy in BRCA-proficient triple-negative breast cancer cells. This identified three hits: the natural product Curcumin and two ruthenium(II)-rhenium(I) polypyridyl metallomacrocycles. All combinations identified were effective in BRCA-proficient breast cancer cells, including an Olaparib-resistant cell line, and spheroid models. Mechanistic studies indicated that synergy was achieved via DNA-damage enhancement and resultant apoptosis. Combinations showed low cytotoxicity toward non-malignant breast epithelial cells and low acute and developmental toxicity in zebrafish embryos. This work identifies RPC metallomacrocycles as a novel class of agents for cancer combination therapy and provides a proof of concept for the inclusion of metallocompounds within drug synergy screens
